Attracting Global Talent for Canada’s Prosperity

June 24, 2019—Toronto, ON: Canada’s ambitious immigration plan aims to boost economic growth and create jobs nationwide.

Since 2015, Canada has actively sought top global talent through specific pilot programs, aligning with the Advisory Council on Economic Growth’s recommendations by:

  • Implementing a strategic immigration plan to increase the number of immigrant workers and support an aging population.
  • Revamping Express Entry to welcome highly skilled professionals and international students needed to address labor shortages.
  • Launching the Global Skills Strategy, which attracts innovative companies and has benefited 40,000 people with quick application processing.
  • Establishing the Global Talent Stream, which has helped over 1,100 Canadian firms hire around 4,300 skilled foreign workers.
  • Making the Start-Up Visa Program permanent, drawing in over 300 entrepreneurs to launch around 200 start-ups in Canada.
  • Leading the Atlantic Immigration Pilot to attract and retain skilled immigrants and graduates in the Atlantic region, resulting in almost 3,000 permanent residencies.
  • Initiating the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot to meet the labor needs of rural and northern areas, setting an example for the nation.

Canada remains committed to welcoming newcomers to address labor deficits and support both businesses and retirees.

“Our population is aging and attracting the best and the brightest from around the Globe to fill labour gaps is key to support our Canadian way of life. Newcomers can also help unlock our hidden potential and create middle-class jobs of the future.”
